After a series of exhaustive comparison tests, Car and Driver
magazine has named the Honda Accord the Number-One Four-Cylinder Mainstream Sedan. Car and Driver
examined a wide array of categories, including powertrain, chassis and
driving experience. Here’s a sample of what they had to say: “Honda has
simply nailed the econosedan formula, and it isn’t just a matter of
building the highest-revving engine, the most competent suspension, and
the most ergonomic interior. The trick is getting every component
talking openly and honestly to every other component. It’s that
sonorous mechanical interplay that lends the Accord its agility and
charm.”*

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recognized the
Honda Accord Sedan as a 2008 "Top Safety Pick." The award was based on
several extensive tests, including a frontal-offset crash test, side
crash test and rear-impact test. In addition, each winner was required
to have electronic stability control available as either standard
equipment or as an option. Active safety systems such as stability
control can help drivers avoid collisions altogether. Vehicle Stability
Assist™ (VSA®), also known as electronic stability control, is standard
equipment on the 2008 Honda Accord.

In its annual 10Best competition, Car and Driver
notes that the all-new 2008 Accord still offers everything that makes
Accord great— and in a larger, more powerful package. They praise both
the Coupe and Sedan, noting “…it adds up to one more in a terrific line
of cars that have captured a record 22 10Best trophies since we started
awarding them in 1983.”*

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has awarded
the 2008 Accord Sedan five stars (its highest rating) in driver and
front passenger crash tests.† These frontal crash-test ratings are a
testament to the advanced safety engineering that comes standard on
every Accord.

Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) New Car Assessment Program

By definition, a benchmark is the example by which all others should be judged. In the eyes of the editors at Motor Trend,
that honor now firmly belongs to the Accord. Put head to head against
Toyota Camry, the Accord showed that it simply offered more: “the
Accord reigns as the best of the best—the benchmark.” *

The article’s headline just about says it all: “Test Drive: The Sweet
New Accord Does Honda Proud.” In his glowing review, USA Today
automotive editor James R. Healey sings Accord’s praises. He notes its
larger interior, its refined powertrain and an “uncommon attention to
detail.” He notes that “…if you accept that the marketplace is the
final judge of an automaker's wisdom, you have had to concede over the
years that Honda is among the gifted-and-talented group. The latest
Accord feels so good to drive and generally is so nicely furnished that
Honda's standing is in no jeopardy.” †

The keen-eyed experts at AutoWeek
found little to criticize when introduced to the all-new Accord. In
fact, their reaction was quite the opposite. After a thorough
inspection and test drive, they found that “everything about the new
model is larger or better, whether you’re looking at overall size and
interior volume, power output and fuel economy or the list of standard
features.” The attention to detail that went into the building of the
Accord got a special nod, as one reviewer noted: “Every fit appears as
if some tiny carpet installer got in there with his knee kickers and
stretched the material taut around every bend and tight into each
corner.”**
